GTA 6: Everything Rockstar Has Officially Confirmed
Most “everything we know” pages mix Rockstar’s own words with leaks, estimates and guesses, because mixing them is easier and gets more clicks. This page keeps them apart. Every line below is labelled, and the unconfirmed ones are labelled the loudest.
How to read this page. Confirmed means Rockstar Games or Take-Two said it, or it appears on an official storefront listing. Unconfirmed means it is widely reported or widely believed but has never come from Rockstar. No word means Rockstar has simply never addressed it — which is not the same as a denial.
Release and platforms
- Confirmed
Grand Theft Auto VI launches Thursday, November 19, 2026.
Rockstar Newswire, November 6, 2025 - Confirmed
It launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar's own game page states it “plays best on PlayStation 5”.
rockstargames.com/VI - No word
A PC version. Rockstar has never announced one, and has never ruled one out either. Every “GTA 6 PC release date” article you will find is guesswork built on what Rockstar did with earlier games.
No Rockstar statement exists either way - No word
PlayStation 4, Xbox One or any Nintendo platform. Rockstar has only ever named PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It has never published a statement excluding the others.
No Rockstar statement exists either way - No word
File size, system requirements, frame rate or graphics modes. Nothing official. Figures circulating for install size are community estimates.
No official information published

Rockstar pre-order page, quoted June 24, 2026 - Confirmed

Rockstar pre-order page, June 2026 - Unconfirmed

Setting and story
- Confirmed
The game is set in the state of Leonida, home to Vice City.
Take-Two / Rockstar announcement, December 4, 2023 - Confirmed
Officially named places so far: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, Mount Kalaga and Leonida Penitentiary.
rockstargames.com/VI/only-in-leonida - Confirmed
The protagonists are Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Both are playable leads in the story.
rockstargames.com/VI/only-in-leonida - Confirmed
The premise, in Rockstar's own words: an easy score goes wrong and the pair end up “in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida”.
rockstargames.com/VI - Unconfirmed
That Lucia is “the first female protagonist in Grand Theft Auto”. She is a full playable lead, which is confirmed, but this specific framing comes from press headlines rather than from Rockstar's own materials.
Press coverage since December 2023 - No word
Returning characters or links to earlier GTA games. Liberty City is mentioned once, as part of Lucia's mother's past. Nothing more.

Scale and gameplay
On 27 August 2026 Rockstar released An Extended Look, a 26-minute gameplay presentation captured in-engine on PlayStation 5. It is the single biggest source of confirmed gameplay information that exists.
- Confirmed
The map is roughly twice the size of GTA V's and about three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's. Vice City alone is around twice the size of Los Santos.
Rob Nelson, Rockstar North, press interviews, August 2026 - Confirmed
The wanted system goes to six stars, up from five in GTA V, and police build a description of you from what witnesses saw — face, clothing, vehicle — rather than knowing instantly where you are.
An Extended Look, August 27, 2026 - Confirmed
A Criminal Profile system replaces the old reputation meter, tracking whether you operate professionally or sloppily.
An Extended Look, August 27, 2026 - Confirmed
Snapmatic returns. New phone features shown include an app for checking a vehicle's value, lock status, alarm and tracker before you take it, and a rideshare app.
An Extended Look, August 27, 2026 - Confirmed
Rob Nelson said his own playthrough of the main story plus some side content took about 80 hours.
Rob Nelson, press interviews, August 2026 - Confirmed
Rockstar has cited more than 600,000 NPC animations, against roughly 55,000 in GTA V and 300,000 in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Rockstar, press materials, August 2026 - Unconfirmed
Any map size given in square miles or square kilometres. Rockstar has only ever given the comparison above. Every absolute figure online is somebody's arithmetic on top of it, using an estimate of GTA V's size that Rockstar never published either.
Fan and journalist calculations - Unconfirmed
30fps on a base PS5. This comes from creators observing hands-off preview footage, not from Rockstar.
Preview coverage, August 2026
Multiplayer
- Confirmed
The official PlayStation Store listing describes Grand Theft Auto VI as “a single-player experience”.
PlayStation Store product page, June 2026 - Confirmed
GTA Online continues. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, August 2026: “We do expect to support GTA Online going forward.”
Take-Two earnings call, August 2026 - No word
An online mode for GTA VI itself. Rockstar has never announced one, at launch or later. Take-Two's comments commit to the existing GTA Online service, which is a different thing.
No Rockstar announcement exists
What has actually been said about GTA Online.
Things repeated as fact that are not official
Short version, because these come up constantly:
| Claim | Status | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| A specific map size in square miles | Unconfirmed | Fan maths on Rockstar's relative comparison |
| PC version confirmed / ruled out | No word | Assumption from Rockstar's past release pattern |
| Install size figures | Unconfirmed | Community estimates |
| Detailed vehicle, weapon and radio station lists | Unconfirmed | Mostly traced back to the 2022 leak |
| Story details beyond the official premise | Unconfirmed | 2022 and 2026 leaks |
| A GTA VI online mode | No word | Inference from Take-Two earnings language |
None of that means those claims are false. Some of them will turn out to be right. It means nobody outside Rockstar knows yet, and a page that presents them as settled is not telling you the truth about its own certainty. How to think about the leaks is covered separately.
When this page changes
This is the page we update first whenever Rockstar publishes something. If a line moves from unconfirmed to confirmed, the date at the top changes and the change is written up in the news log so you can see what moved and when.
