Where you can play it

GTA 6 Platforms, and the PC Question

Two platforms confirmed, and one question Rockstar has refused to answer for nearly three years. This page separates what has been said from what everyone has decided to assume.

Last checked: September 11, 2026 Status: Pre-release

Confirmed

  • Confirmed

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, launching simultaneously on 19 November 2026.

Rockstar Games, since the December 2023 announcement
  • Confirmed

Rockstar's own game page states the game “plays best on PlayStation 5”.

    rockstargames.com/VI

That second line is the kind of phrasing that generates a hundred articles. It is marketing language from a platform arrangement, and Rockstar has not published any technical detail explaining what it means in practice — no comparative resolution, frame rate or feature list. Treat it as a statement about a partnership, not a benchmark.

The PC question

Rockstar has never announced a PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI. It has also never ruled one out. Three years of silence, in both directions.

What people do instead is reason from Rockstar's history, which is legitimate as long as it is labelled for what it is — a pattern, not a plan:

How Rockstar has handled PC releases for its last two major titles.
GameConsole releasePC releaseGap
Grand Theft Auto VSeptember 2013April 2015About 19 months
Red Dead Redemption 2October 2018November 2019About 13 months

This table is history, not a forecast. It tells you what Rockstar did twice. It does not tell you what Rockstar will do here, and there is no basis for converting it into a date. If you see a specific “GTA 6 PC release date” anywhere, somebody has done exactly that conversion and then dropped the word “probably”.

Everything else

  • No word

PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Rockstar has only ever named the current-generation consoles. It has never published a statement excluding the previous generation, so the widespread “confirmed not coming to PS4” line is an inference, not a quote.

    No Rockstar statement either way
  • No word

Nintendo Switch or Switch 2. Never mentioned by Rockstar or Take-Two in connection with this game.

    No Rockstar statement either way
  • No word

    Cloud streaming services. Nothing announced.

    No Rockstar statement
  • No word

System requirements, install size, performance modes or frame rate targets on any platform.

    No official information published

What this means if you are deciding what to buy

Two honest points, and no recommendation, because we do not know your situation:

  • If you want to play on 19 November 2026, you need a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S. That is the whole of it. There is no announced alternative.
  • If you are a PC player, nobody can tell you how long to wait, including us. Waiting for an unannounced port is a gamble on Rockstar repeating itself.

We will update this page the day Rockstar says anything, and put it in the news log.
