Every GTA 6 Character Rockstar Has Revealed
Eight named characters so far: two leads and six others. Everything below comes from Rockstar’s own character pages. Where the internet has filled in relationships, allegiances and story roles beyond this, it is filling them in from leaks or imagination.
The two leads
Lucia Caminos
Rockstar's bio describes a woman whose father “taught her to fight as soon as she could walk”, and for whom “life has been coming at her swinging ever since”. Fighting for her family put her in Leonida Penitentiary; the studio says “sheer luck got her out”.
What she wants is stated plainly: “the good life her mom has dreamed of since their days in Liberty City”. Her line in the official materials — “The only thing that matters is who you know and what you got” — is about as direct a thesis statement as Rockstar has given for this game.
Lucia is a full playable lead. You will frequently see her described as “the first female protagonist in Grand Theft Auto”; that framing comes from press coverage rather than from Rockstar's own wording, though the underlying fact that she is a mandatory playable co-lead is confirmed.
Jason Duval
“Jason wants an easy life, but things just keep getting harder.” Rockstar's bio has him growing up “around grifters and crooks”, doing a stint in the Army to shake off a troubled adolescence, and ending up in the Keys working for local drug runners.
He is the more passive half of the pair by design. His quoted lines — “If anything happens, I'm right behind you” and “Another day in paradise, right?” — are the words of someone being carried by events.
The two of them together
Rockstar frames the relationship as the spine of the game: meeting Lucia “could be the best or worst thing to ever happen to him”, and “a life with Jason could be her way out”. An easy score goes wrong and the pair end up, in the studio's words, “in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida”.
Rob Nelson of Rockstar North, speaking to Famitsu: “This game is the story of Jason and Lucia, but at the same time, it is also the story of the relationship between two human beings.”
How the switching works between them is not confirmed. GTA V let you swap between three protagonists at will. Rockstar has not said whether GTA VI works the same way, whether it is story-driven, or whether the two are separable at all. Anyone telling you how it works is guessing.
The six named supporting characters
