GTA 6 on PC: There Is No Announced Date

Every page promising a GTA 6 PC release date is guessing from Rockstar’s past. Here is that past in full, including the example everyone leaves out because it breaks the pattern.

Last checked: September 11, 2026 Status: Pre-release
  • No word

A PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar has never announced one. It has also never ruled one out. Nearly three years of silence in both directions.

    No Rockstar statement exists
  • Confirmed

The confirmed platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, on 19 November 2026.

    Rockstar Games

That is the entire factual content of this question. Everything below is history and reasoning, clearly marked.

The record of Rockstar PC ports

People extrapolate from two examples. There is a third, and it is the interesting one.

Gap between console release and PC release for recent Rockstar titles.
GameConsolePCGap
Grand Theft Auto VSeptember 2013April 2015About 19 months
Red Dead Redemption 2October 2018November 2019About 13 months
Red Dead Redemption2010October 2024About 14 years

That third row is why “Rockstar always ports to PC” is not a safe assumption. The original Red Dead Redemption launched in 2010 and did not reach PC until 29 October 2024. Rockstar does port its games to PC eventually — but “eventually” has ranged from thirteen months to fourteen years, and nobody predicted which was which in advance.

Why people assume it is coming anyway

The reasoning is not stupid, and it is worth setting out fairly:

  • GTA V's PC version has sold for over a decade and remains a substantial business.
  • Rockstar has its own PC launcher and storefront to feed.
  • Modding on PC has extended the life of Rockstar's games enormously, which has commercial value even when Rockstar itself is hostile to specific mods.
  • A PC release is a second launch moment with almost no development risk, on a game whose marketing is already paid for.

All true. None of it is a Rockstar statement, and none of it tells you when.

Why the silence is itself deliberate

Rockstar has been asked about PC many times since December 2023 and has answered none of them. That is a choice, and the commercial logic is obvious: announcing a PC version now would give a meaningful number of people a reason to skip the console purchase in November. A staggered release only works if the second date is unknown.

So the absence of an announcement is not evidence that no PC version exists. It is what you would expect either way, which is exactly why it tells you nothing.

What would actually signal one

Rather than guessing a date, here is what to watch for. These are the things that have historically preceded a Rockstar PC announcement:

  • A store page appearing on Steam, the Epic Games Store or Rockstar's own launcher.
  • Ratings board listings in any territory naming a PC version.
  • Take-Two mentioning it on an earnings call, which is where platform expansions are often first acknowledged.
  • Job listings or credits referencing PC-specific work.

None of those exist for GTA VI as of 11 September 2026. When one does, it will be in the news log the same day.

If you only play on PC

The honest position, and we are not going to dress it up:

  • There is no announced way to play this game on PC, at launch or afterwards.
  • Waiting for a port is a bet on Rockstar repeating a pattern that has a fourteen-year outlier in it.
  • Nobody, including us, can tell you whether that wait is one year or five.

What we will not do is give you a number to plan around, because we do not have one and neither does anyone else.
