The GTA 6 Map: Leonida and Vice City
Rockstar has named seven places and given one comparison about size. That is the entire official record. Everything else circulating as a map — including the ones with district labels and street names — is reconstruction, not fact.
The state of Leonida
Grand Theft Auto VI is set in Leonida, a fictional US state, with Vice City as its major urban centre. Rockstar named both in the original announcement on 4 December 2023, describing Leonida as “home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond”.
Vice City itself is not new — it was the setting of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in 2002 and Vice City Stories in 2006. What is new is the surrounding state. Earlier games gave you a city; this one gives you a city inside a region.
Every location Rockstar has officially named
These come from Rockstar's own Only in Leonida page. If a place is not on this list, Rockstar has not named it.
| Place | What Rockstar has said |
|---|---|
| Vice City | The main city, and the centre of the story. |
| Leonida Keys | A region of islands. Rockstar North's Rob Nelson has said the story begins here. |
| Grassrivers | A named region. Wetland by name and by the imagery shown. |
| Port Gellhorn | A named location. |
| Ambrosia | A named region. |
| Mount Kalaga | A named location. |
| Leonida Penitentiary | The prison Lucia was released from at the start of the story. |
Liberty City gets one mention, and it matters less than people want it to: Rockstar's bio for Lucia says she wants the life her mother has dreamed of “since their days in Liberty City”. That is backstory. Rockstar has not said Liberty City appears in this game in any form.

How big is it, really
Rockstar has given exactly one piece of information about size, through Rob Nelson of Rockstar North in press interviews around the August 2026 preview:
- Confirmed
The map is roughly twice the size of GTA V's.
Rob Nelson, press interviews, August 2026 - Confirmed
It is about three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's.
Rob Nelson, press interviews, August 2026 - Confirmed
Vice City alone is around twice the size of Los Santos.

Any figure in square miles or square kilometres. Rockstar has never published one for GTA VI — and never published an official one for GTA V either, which means the fan calculations are estimates built on estimates.
Fan and journalist arithmetic
About the map images you have seen. Detailed GTA VI maps with district names, road networks and landmark pins circulate widely and some of them look very convincing. None of them are official. They are reconstructed from trailer frames, from the 2022 leak, and in a growing number of cases generated by AI. Rockstar has not released a map of Leonida.
What Rockstar has said about the real-world inspiration
Rob Nelson, to Famitsu: “Modern-day Florida and Miami have an enormous variety of people, lifestyles and areas.” Rockstar's narrative team has also described research trips involving, in the words of VP of narrative Rupert Humphries, meetings with “ex-criminals, law enforcement, club promoters, gun dealers and anyone notorious or influential who'll take our calls”.
The Florida basis was never really in question — Vice City has been a fictionalised Miami since 2002 — but it is worth noting that this is Rockstar saying it, not an assumption.
