How to Pre-Order GTA 6
A practical guide with an unusual conclusion: for a lot of people, pre-ordering this game buys very little. Here is what it does get you, and the two deadlines that actually matter.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026
Counting to 00:00 UTC on November 19. Rockstar has confirmed the date but has not announced an unlock time, so treat the clock as the day, not the hour.
Where you can pre-order

Pre-orders opened on 25 June 2026 on the PlayStation Store, the Xbox and Microsoft Store, and at selected physical retailers.

Those are the channels Rockstar named. Retailer availability and any retailer-specific offers vary by country and change, so check the store you intend to use rather than trusting a list on any website, including this one.

The line that settles it for most people. Rockstar has stated that the Ultimate Edition content “will be made available to buyers of the Standard Edition with an upgrade package able to be purchased separately”. If you are unsure, buy Standard. The only thing you risk is that the separate upgrade might cost more than $20 — Rockstar has not announced its price. Full contents of each edition.
The two deadlines

Why you may not need to pre-order at all
This is the part other pre-order guides leave out, and it follows directly from that second date.
The Vintage Vice City Pack — the '55 Vapid Stanier and Shore Court Garage, the two outfits, the weapon pattern — is not a pre-order exclusive in the usual sense. It is included with digital purchases through 20 November. If you buy the game digitally on launch day, or even the day after, you get it.
So what does pre-ordering actually buy you?
- Pre-loading. You can download in advance instead of on the day. Worth something on a slow connection — though Rockstar still has not published an install size, so nobody knows how much time that saves.
- A guaranteed physical copy, if you want a disc. Physical stock is finite and the pack is included with physical pre-orders only while stocks last.
- Not having to think about it on the day.
That is a real but modest list. If none of it applies to you, waiting costs you nothing and keeps your money until the reviews are out.
What pre-ordering does not protect you from
- A delay. This game has been delayed twice. A pre-order does not change that risk; it just means your money is committed while it happens.
- The game not being what you expect. You are buying ahead of any review.
Both digital storefronts allow pre-orders to be cancelled before release, which Take-Two's own chief executive pointed out in August: “You can cancel a pre-order. We haven't sold one unit yet.” Cancellation terms are set by the store, not by Rockstar, so check the policy of the one you use.
