GTA VI Is Rated: Mature 17+ in North America, PEGI 18 in Europe
Seven weeks before launch, Grand Theft Auto VI has been classified. The ratings are the ones every mainline GTA has carried, but the listing is the first official document to describe what is in the finished game.
The ratings
| Region | Board | Rating |
|---|---|---|
| North America | ESRB | Mature 17+ |
| Europe and UK | PEGI | 18 |
| Australia and New Zealand | Store listings | 18+ |
The ESRB content descriptors
- Blood and Gore
- Intense Violence
- Mature Humor
- Nudity
- Strong Language
- Strong Sexual Content
- Use of Drugs and Alcohol
The listing also carries the In-Game Purchases label.
What this does and does not tell us
- It is not Adults Only. Mature 17+ is the rating GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 received. An AO rating would keep the game off console storefronts, so this was never likely.
- “Sex scenes.” Australian and New Zealand listings use that phrase. Coverage has speculated about interactive content; the more ordinary reading is story cutscenes. Rockstar has said nothing on the point, so we mark anything beyond the wording as unconfirmed.
- In-game purchases. The label confirms there is something to buy. It does not say what, and it tells us nothing about GTA Online, on which there is still no word.
Buying it for someone else
If you are buying for a household with younger players, the rating is the plain answer: this is an adult game. Console parental controls on PS5 and Xbox can restrict titles by rating. See Editions & price and the pre-order guide.
